General Rules for Listing Your Inventory

When listing your inventory in the ProMusicFind.Com database please keep in mind the following suggestions. This will insure proper search results for your items.

General Listing Suggestions

1) If you are uploading a tab or comma delimited text file, then it is important that a single record (or item) fit on one line.

2) If you are using a spreadsheet or database application for your inventory and the very first line or row consist of the titles of the fields than you are o.k. when you save as a delimited text file. But,

3) If you are using a database or spreadsheet where the titles of the fields are on top of the page and the first row consists of inventory data, then it is important for you to make the very first row empty. Your data should begin on the second row.

4) With so many items in the database, it is impossible for me to check each one. You need to be aware of your own inventory. If you become aware of a problem with listing your inventory that will effect the search results of an item, please contact ProMusicFInd.Com let us know.

5) If you notice empty records on your Edit/Delete Inventory page, it is because in your database file empty records exist. There are several ways this could happen. If you notice empty records on your Edit/Delete Inventory page contact me and I will help you work out the problem in your database.

Listing Musical Instruments and Equipment

1) Be sure that your item in the "type" field is listed in the singular form. (i.e. guitar, drum, effect, effect pedal, violin, microphone, etc.)

2) Because the search is capable of pulling up items by keywords, it may be to your best interest to use as many words that could describe your item. Use the full name of your item as well as make and model. And, if your item may have an abbreviation or industry "Buzz" word, use that as well. All such keyword should be grouped together, separated by commas, in the appropriate field.

Example: A four track recorder could be searched for by "four track" or "recording equipment" or "four track recorder". Or, Microphone could be searched for by Mic; Effect Pedal might be searched for by Effect, FX, etc. All of these words would be in your Type field.

Paul Reed Smith could also be searched by PRS. These Keywords would go in your Make filed.

3) In some cases, certain industry "Buzz" words may incorporate the plural. It would be to your best interest to ad this possibility in the corresponding field.

Example: Drum, Drums; Effect, Effects; Tube, Tubes; Guitar Part, Guitar Parts; etc.

4) Do Not Use hyphens or dashes within model numbers. Use a space if you must.

(i.e. D1 or D 1 vs. D-1)

5) Although I mentioned above that it is possible to add several keywords in one field for the different ways end users may search for something, you could also create separate listings of an item for each way it could be searched. For example, a four track recorder could be searched for by "four track" or "recording equipment" or "four track recorder". Remember that you are paying for the number of items you list. But, if you are paying for listing 26 - 499 items and you only have 300 listed, then you could take advantage of listing items several different ways.

Listing Records, CDs, Music, Videos, Books, etc.

1) Although the search engine will locate your item by keyword, we suggest you use one or more of the following to enter in your "Type" field. If a specific type that you would like to use is not in this list you may still enter it in your "Type" field. In deciding what to put in your type field, put yourself in the buyer's shoes; what keyword would they use to find the item you are listing. More then one "type" can be put in your "Type" field.

Suggested Item Types Are:

***If you have a "type" that is not listed above, then please contact ProMusicFind.Com. We will add your type to our suggested items to search for on the "Search Tips" page and above.

2) If you see items at the top of your inventory list, on the Edit/Delete Inventory Page of the Dealer System, out of alphabetical order, it is most likely because there is a space before the Artist/Author/Composer/Band name in your Artist/Author/Composer/Band field.
